Oakland County Sheriff’s Office: Oxford Township Substation
Detective/Sergeant Ric Meza serves with the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office at the Oxford Township Substation, where he oversees detectives, school resource officers, the day shift, and many of the substation’s daily operations. The substation serves Oxford Township’s 36 square miles and approximately 22,000 residents, providing road patrol, investigations, school safety support, and community outreach.
Oxford Township is staffed by 24 deputies, along with leadership from Lieutenant Patterson, the substation commander, Sergeant Meza, and Sergeant Dougherty, who supervises the afternoon and midnight shifts.
One of the strengths of the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office is the extensive range of resources available. Teams and units include Search and Rescue, SWAT, Narcotics, Fugitive Apprehension, Auto Theft, Computer Crimes, Traffic Enforcement, K9, Aviation, Drone, and a full Crime Lab. These tools and teams allow deputies to respond to any situation quickly and efficiently.
The substation stays active in the community through events like the Seymour Celebration, the LAX Lacrosse Bash, drug take back programs, Coats for the Cold, Youth Assistance support, and trunk or treats at local schools, among others. This year, deputies also assisted with Tough Mudder.
They are currently preparing for the annual Shop with a Hero event on Wednesday, December 10 at Meijer on North Lapeer Road. The Sheriff’s Office joins forces with the Oxford Village Police Department, Oxford and Addison Fire Departments, Orion Township Fire, and surrounding agencies to make this night special for local children in need. Kids are recommended through schools, counselors, school resource officers, and youth assistance programs. Before shopping, the heroes and children gather for dinner at the fire station to get acquainted and ease any nerves. This GivingTuesday consider donating to the cause using the QR code below.
The substation participates in other forms of outreach as well, including bicycle safety education, proactive patrol efforts, and attending coffee meetings, Chamber luncheons, and occasional ribbon cuttings when schedules allow.
For the upcoming Oxford Christmas Parade, the team has requested several special units, including Search and Rescue vehicles, and may bring PR vehicles such as a Corvette or Challenger that were obtained through forfeiture. They also hope to have comfort canines available, depending on scheduling.
Sergeant Meza emphasized that although deputies may not attend every after-hours networking event, the substation is committed to being visible, supportive, and approachable at community-focused gatherings.
