The Covered Wagon Saddlery: A Family Tradition in Downtown Oxford
For three generations, the Gabriel family has been a cornerstone of Oxford’s downtown with Covered Wagon Saddlery. Owner, Danny Gabriel, proudly carries on the family legacy that began with his grandmother nearly 60 years ago, followed by his mother and now himself. “We are family owned, completely. We have one location, brick and mortar, in downtown Oxford. We love the town here,” he shared.
Covered Wagon Saddlery offers a wide variety of Western boots, Western hats, English and Western gear for horses and riders, saddles and even non-horse items. “We do stuff for concerts, weddings, horse shows and offer outerwear for hunting…all the footwear, we support all the fun,” Danny explained. In addition to the main store, there’s Oxford Outfitters on the second floor, which features a unique mix of outdoor wear and practical items.
The store is open seven days a week. Hours are: Sunday from 12 to 4pm; Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 10am – 6pm. On Thursdays, the store is open from 10am -8pm.
During the holidays, Covered Wagon Saddlery goes above and beyond to make shopping fun. “We usually offer a little refreshment on the weekends during the holidays for our sales,” Danny said. “During Black Friday, we will have hors d’oeuvres, snacks and drinks. Occasionally on Thursday evenings we will do something special. ” Covered Wagon Saddlery also has big sales during Small Business Saturday, with up to 70% off selected items upstairs.
Danny is excited to connect with the community through local events as well. While he has participated in the Oxford Christmas Parade, he is eager to engage more with other business owners in upcoming Chamber events.
