Maple Cove Bed and Breakfast: Relax, Reconnect, Retreat
For more than a decade, Jan and Mark Smith have welcomed guests to Maple Cove Bed and Breakfast, a peaceful retreat tucked just minutes from downtown Oxford. The couple purchased the property in 1994 and spent years shaping it into the warm, quiet getaway it is today. “It has truly been the best job ever” Jan shared. “We love creating a place where people can relax and reconnect.”
The main house currently offers three suites, and the property also includes the August House, a two bedroom cottage that has become a favorite for honeymooners, girlfriend getaways, and couples seeking a private escape. Guests enjoy access to a pool, greenhouse, gazebo, and a charming collection of farm animals. The Smiths care for horses, miniature donkeys, goats, and chickens, a recent expansion that has added a fun farm atmosphere without losing the tranquility Maple Cove is known for.
Beginning December 31, the Smiths will retire the main house from guest use, but the August House will remain open under its new name Maple Cove’s August House. Visitors will still have the option to enjoy the couple’s home cooked breakfasts or prepare their own meals in the full kitchen. “The experience will stay the same” Jan explained. “It will just be on a smaller scale. Guests will still have complete privacy and the same peaceful environment.”
Adults seeking a serene getaway will find Maple Cove appealing not only for its quiet setting but also for its proximity to local attractions. “We are so close to everything fun” Jan said. “You can relax here and still be just minutes from the restaurants, markets, and events in downtown Oxford.”
As active members of the local chamber, the Smiths appreciate the connection to the business community. “I love the people and the way the chamber promotes small businesses” Jan noted. She especially enjoys events like the Sip and Stroll, Witch’s Night, and the Thursday summer market, where the couple’s farm to table approach fits right in.
With a gentle shift toward partial retirement, the Smiths look forward to continuing their tradition of hospitality at Maple Cove’s August House, offering guests the same quiet charm that has made their property a beloved local retreat.
