Evergreens Coffee & Bakeshop: Stuffed Bagels, Community Spirit, and 25-State Success
At 9 South Washington in downtown Oxford, Evergreens Coffee & Bake Shop has become a warm local gathering place, known for friendly faces, specialty drinks, and the stuffed bagels that have gained national attention. Owner Angie Green has been running the shop for 10 years, but her journey started long before that. “I was an emergency room nurse for more than 20 years before opening the coffee shop,” she says with a smile. “I guess the nurturing part of me never left.”
Evergreens offers everything from frozen coffees to lattes, cappuccinos, smoothies, and bubble tea. But it’s the stuffed bagels that people talk about. Each bagel comes filled with cream cheese and creative combinations such as bacon cheddar, apple pie, blueberry, and rotating monthly specials. “This month we even have Thanksgiving dinner stuffed inside them,” Angie laughs. For those with dietary restrictions, gluten-friendly versions are available by pre-order, though she reminds customers that the kitchen is not a gluten-free facility.
The menu goes well beyond bagels. Customers can preorder beautifully decorated cakes, or pick up cinnamon rolls, cookies, banana bread, homemade granola bars, or quiche. Large orders aren’t a problem either. “We’ve handled four or five hundred items for companies like General Motors (GM),” Angie says.
Evergreens is also a favorite workspace. With free Wi-Fi, large tables, and a welcoming atmosphere, the shop regularly hosts church groups, networking groups, homeschoolers, Girl Scouts, and locals who simply enjoy working in a friendly environment. “We love everything about our community that we can be helpful to,” Angie says.
Community involvement is at the heart of the business. Angie supports school programs, church groups, and local events through the DDA and the Oxford Chamber of Commerce. “Anything happening downtown benefits the whole community, and we love to be involved.” She hopes to attend more Chamber events in the coming year.
Family is another key part of the story. Angie’s oldest son, Hunter, runs Bros ‘n Dough, the wholesale side of the family-owned business. Their stuffed bagels are now sold in more than 400 stores across 25 states. “It sounds like it would be difficult to work with family, but I thoroughly enjoy it,” Angie says. She also loves working with younger employees. “They bring intuitive ideas and look at things from different angles. The future of our community is in our young people.”
Evergreens has become more than a coffee shop. It is a place where people meet, collaborate, recharge, and feel connected. Whether you stop in for a latte, a famous stuffed bagel, or a quiet place to work, Angie and her team are always ready with a warm welcome.
