Spotlight on Service: Meet the Oxford Village Police with Chief Mike Solwold
Meet the Oxford Village Police Department, a small but mighty force right here in Oxford, Michigan. Led by Chief Mike Solwold, this department brings a blend of professionalism, community spirit, and just the right amount of humor to everything they do.
With a welcoming grin, he expressed his heartfelt gratitude that Jenine Sparks accepted the role as Executive Director of the Oxford Chamber of Commerce by saying, “I want to say welcome to the community. We are looking forward to working with you and seeing all the great things that you can accomplish for the community.”
Behind the playful jokes is a team that takes community support seriously. The department puts strong emphasis on youth engagement, from partnering with the Youth Assistance Board to offering programs that help guide young people toward safe and positive paths. They also provide traffic assistance for residents who need a hand and, as Chief Solwold joked, “housing for people that break the laws.” He added, “People make mistakes. Just do not make that mistake again, and let us get you back on track.”
Their goal is simple and sincere. They want to help, guide, and protect. Whether they are offering ride alongs, directing traffic during events, patrolling neighborhoods, or helping someone through a tough moment, the Oxford Village Police are committed to being both approachable and dependable.
Chief Solwold summed it up best: “People make mistakes, just do not make that mistake again.” It is a philosophy rooted in accountability, compassion, and community partnership.
The Oxford Village Police also play a huge role in coordinating with other departments during major community events, including the upcoming Oxford Christmas Parade on Saturday, December 6, 2025 at 1 pm.

It Takes a Village: A Look Inside the Oxford Village Offices with Clerk Treasurer Vickie Hauff
Behind every smoothly run community is a group of people who keep everything organized, accessible, and running on time. In the Village of Oxford, one of those key people is Clerk Treasurer Vickie Hauff, a warm and dedicated professional who believes wholeheartedly in serving residents.
When we spoke to her, she introduced herself simply and clearly: “I am the Clerk Treasurer. I collect taxes. I am a notary. We assist the residents when they have questions and concerns.” She followed that with, “We work for the people.”
She explained that the Village Offices handle “anything and everything that comes across our desks,” always with the goal of doing what is best for the community. Chief Mike Solwold added, “The bottom line is we are all here to accomplish the same goal, and that is to do what we can for the community.”
Their approach is simple, heartfelt, and grounded in service. Chief Mike Solwold added, “That is all you do. You just do what you can. It takes a village, literally.” And with a smile, Vickie Hauff added, “Yes it does.”
