At 33 Pleasant Street in Oxford, Michigan, inside a 110 year old historic mill, White Pine Coffee Roasters has quietly become a cornerstone of quality and community. Founded by Brad Kopek and Bryan Meganck, the café and roastery blends meticulous craft with a welcoming spirit that reflects both the village and the nearby Polly Ann Trail.

White Pine’s café has been open for nearly four years, but the roasting operation dates back to 2014. From the beginning, Kopek and Meganck committed themselves exclusively to specialty coffee. As Kopek explains, “It sounds very generic, but it’s very specific in its nature. The top 5 percent quality wise is all we roast and all we sell.” That focus has earned them roughly 40 wholesale partners across Metro Detroit, along with a loyal local following.

The building itself plays a central role in the experience. The trail running alongside the property brings cyclists, runners, and walkers through the doors, often stopping for what the team affectionately calls “trail provisions.” Pastries from Crust in Fenton are a particular point of pride. Kopek says. “We’re pretty proud that we carry Crust.”

Inside, White Pine feels designed for more than a quick cup of coffee. There are people working on laptops, small groups meeting, and a rentable back room that regularly hosts gatherings. Meganck describes the vision simply: “It’s about quality. It’s about community. We’re thrilled to be here. It’s a real recreation vibe, and we’re really enjoying being part of the community and growing with it.”

Coffee education is another defining element. Customers are encouraged to ask questions, whether about brewing methods at home or what makes a particular single origin special. White Pine offers five year round blends alongside rotating single origin coffees sourced from specific towns, farms, or regions around the world. “Education is big in what we do,” Kopek says.

That hospitality extends beyond the counter. White Pine frequently supports local organizations by waiving room fees for fundraisers, donating gift cards and coffee, and serving as a warming hub for community events on the trail. Kopek also supports the Epilepsy Foundation of Michigan, reflecting the personal nature of their giving.

Above all, Kopek and Meganck are intentional about the atmosphere they create. “We’re a hospitality forward establishment,” Kopek emphasizes. “Sometimes people fear a really high-quality shop because they can get a little snooty. We make sure that doesn’t happen here. We’re a very welcoming place.”
