Royal Oak Heating, Cooling, Electrical & Plumbing

Royal Oak Heating, Cooling, Electrical & Plumbing has been serving Southeast Michigan since 1951, but for owner Scott Ferguson, the company’s connection to Oxford runs much deeper than a service area. “We’ve lived in Oxford since 1988,” Ferguson shared. “My kids went through the school system here. Now they both work at the company. We’ve lived in three different homes in this town. We’re part of the Oxford community.”

Scott joined Royal Oak Heating and Cooling in 1988, later founding Ferguson Heating and Cooling in Oxford before returning to purchase Royal Oak Heating and Cooling, which he now owns. One of his goals is to make sure the community knows the company is locally owned and locally invested. “I want people to know that I own it, and I’m in the area. I’m here,” he said.

Despite the name, Royal Oak Heating, Cooling, Electrical & Plumbing operates from Troy and serves much of Oakland County and southern Lapeer County, covering areas from I-69 to I-696. With a team of about 40 employees, many dispatched directly from their homes, the company provides heating, cooling, electrical, and plumbing services with a strong emphasis on organization and reliability.

“I feel this area needs good, reliable companies,” Ferguson said. “When people call and say, ‘I need you here at 11 o’clock on Wednesday,’ we’re actually going to be there.” Dedicated office staff schedule and dispatch every job through a centralized system, ensuring appointments are tracked, confirmed, and honored. “That old thing about contractors never showing up, that’s not us,” he added.

While the company is well established, Ferguson remains hands on and deeply connected to the community. His wife, Kathy Ferguson, has been a preschool teacher in Oxford since 1988, and the family’s roots run through local schools, businesses, and longtime customer relationships. “I’ve been inside homes where my wife has known the homeowners since they were young children, and now we’re still there, years later, taking care of their heating, cooling, plumbing, and electrical needs,” he said.

Giving back is also important. Royal Oak Heating, Cooling, Electrical & Plumbing supports local efforts such as Shopping with a Hero, helping local individuals when we can as we did last year with a Oxford Teacher. I look forward to becoming more involved in community events, including future parades and Chamber activities. “I really like this town,” Ferguson said. “I just want to be part of it as it grows.” I would like to have people know that with my boys Russell and Steven working with me the company’s succession plan is set to be here for the next 30 years.

For customers, Ferguson has one clear piece of advice. “Always call the main office number,” he said. “That’s the process. It goes into the system, it gets dispatched properly, and it gets taken care of.”
