Tucked into the heart of downtown Oxford, Page 18 New and Used Books is more than a bookstore. It is a gathering place, a quiet retreat, and a growing hub for creativity and connection. Located at 1 S Washington St, Oxford, MI 48371, the shop sits on the southwest corner of Burdick and Washington. It invites passersby to slow down and step into a world built around stories.
Owner Lori Miller opened Page 18 in October 2025 with a clear vision. “We wanted to have some events, bring the community together, just kind of hang out,” she said. That vision comes through the moment you walk through the door. Shelves of new and used books line the walls, while a cozy event room offers a place to sip coffee, read, or work quietly.
“My daughter does homework in here sometimes because it’s quiet,” Lori shared.
Page 18 also serves coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and fun refreshers in flavors like blue raspberry, strawberry, and pineapple. “We’re not quite Starbucks, but we hold our own,” Lori said. Whether you want to settle in, meet a friend, or simply enjoy some quiet time, the shop offers a welcoming place to do it.
Affordability and inclusivity are central to Lori’s mission. “That’s why I have so many used books,” she explained. “Not everybody can buy a new book. I want people to still find a book for them at a reasonable price.”
As a result, the shop carries something for everyone: men, women, children, avid readers, and even those who may not consider themselves readers at all. Candles, puzzles, mugs, sweatshirts, and pop culture merchandise also make Page 18 welcoming to all.
Community events are already filling the calendar. For example, a Valentine’s-themed event on February 12 will blend plant bingo, desserts, and a “blind date with a book.”
“I made them all romance, with a couple of dark romance,” Lori said. “If someone doesn’t like their blind date, maybe they can trade with somebody else. That’s part of the fun.”
Page 18 also encourages local makers to get involved. Vendors, artists, and crafters are welcome to host pop-up events in the shop’s event room. “If you crochet, make candles, or have art, we can work out a day/time and a price,” Lori said. “If we bring a few vendors together, it brings even more people in.”
Book donations are welcome at Page 18 as well. Donors receive 20% off store-owned items every time they donate.
“Anytime you donate, I want it to be easy and worth it,” Lori emphasized.
As Page 18 continues to grow, Lori remains focused on one thing above all else: community.
“I’m hoping there’s just something for everybody,” she said.
And judging by the warm atmosphere and full shelves, Page 18 is quickly becoming Oxford’s own little chapter worth lingering in.
