A Smile-Focused Practice in the Heart of Oxford

The team at Oxford Lakes Dental Care, cares deeply about their patients and wants to make their experiences as comfortable as possible. “Dentistry is not always the most exciting thing to have done,” Schmitz said. “So, I try to make the experience as best as possible for my patients.“ That’s why creating a welcoming, compassionate environment is at the heart of what Oxford Lakes Dental Care strives to provide every day.

Leading the practice is Dr. Brian Schmitz, DDS, the sole dentist at the family-owned office. After working with a dental group in Warren, Schmitz made the move to Oxford to take over a long standing local clinic. “I’ve been out of school for about 10 years,” Schmitz said. “I was working with a group in Warren, and then I came out here to start my own practice.”

The transition happened in a surprisingly simple way. Schmitz connected with longtime owners Dr. Dan Sahutske and Dr. Donna Sahutske by introducing himself and asking if they might ever consider bringing someone in to eventually take over. “I said, ‘If you’re ever interested in bringing someone on to maybe take over, let’s talk,’” Schmitz recalled. “And they said, actually, yeah, let’s talk. It just worked out really well.”

Today, the practice continues its tradition of providing comprehensive dental care for the community. Oxford Lakes Dental Care treats patients of all ages and offers a wide range of services including fillings, crowns, root canals, implants, and dentures. “We treat normal dental fillings, crowns, root canals, implants, dentures – you name it, anything dentistry,” Schmitz said.

Accessibility is also important to the practice. The office accepts a variety of insurance plans and offers an in-house membership plan designed to help uninsured patients reduce out-of-pocket costs.

Outside the office, Schmitz describes himself first and foremost as a family man. He and his wife have two young children, and family life plays a major role in shaping how he approaches his work. “I’m a big believer in the golden rule – do unto others as you would have them do unto you,” he said.

Although he currently lives in Shelby Township, Schmitz says he hopes to eventually move closer to Oxford after falling in love with the area during his daily commute.

Oxford Lakes Dental Care currently operates Monday from 10am to 7pm, Tuesday from 10am to 7pm, Wednesday from 8am to 5pm, and Thursday from 9am to 3pm, but will be expanding their hours this summer to accommodate their patient’s busy schedules.
