HHI Hodge Home Inspections: Helping Homebuyers Avoid Surprises
Erik Hodge introduced himself with a steady confidence that comes from years of helping people through stressful moments. “I own HHI, Hodge Home Inspections. Our motto is, Do not let your dream home become a nightmare,” he said with a smile. His business provides full home inspections along with radon testing, water testing, sewer scopes, air quality evaluations, and mold surface testing. For Erik, the technical work matters, but the service matters more. “The whole point of my business is great customer service, especially during a stressful time like buying or selling a home.”
Erik is known in local networking circles for his thorough inspections and the advanced tools he brings to every job. He uses drones, infrared cameras, moisture meters, and carbon monoxide detectors as standard practice. “I include that because it helps me do a better inspection,” he explained. “I do not believe in charging extra for many of the tools that help me help the client.”
Although his business keeps him moving across Oakland County, Erik is deeply connected to the Oxford community. He supports fellow business owners, answers questions from friends in the trades, and is always willing to help troubleshoot. “I always say I am a free resource. If you see something and do not know what it is, hit me up. I am happy to help,” he said. Much of his community involvement happens through business-to-business relationships, strengthened in groups like Oxford Power Networking, the Orion Chamber, CNG (Orion’s Chamber Networking Group), and BNI (Business Networking International).
Erik attends Oxford Chamber events whenever possible, from Coffee Connects to the holiday party, and his family participates in many of the community events. His ties to Oxford run deep, since he lives here, his children attend the schools, and his wife teaches at Lakeville. “We are definitely ingrained in the community,” he said. “I love being able to serve people who are also my neighbors.”
His path into home inspection was not traditional. Erik spent years in the trades and then as a wedding DJ and director of customer service for the entertainment company. When the pandemic halted the wedding industry, he needed a new direction. His wife suggested home inspection, and once he researched it, everything clicked. “I looked it up and said, This is totally my jam,” Erik recalled. “It felt like going back to my roots, except now I get to make sure the work was done right.”
Michigan does not license home inspectors, but Erik chose to certify through two national organizations, ICA and InterNACHI, and completes continuing education every year. He believes that professionalism builds trust, especially when referrals are at stake. “When someone refers you, that is a line of credit. You have to be good for it,” he said.
Erik’s commitment continues long after the inspection is complete. He often answers questions weeks or months later, helping clients understand issues as they settle into their homes. “Call me, text me, email me. I am always available,” he said. “I just want to take care of people, and I want the people who refer me to look good too.”
