Owned by Dan and Debbie Burgess, Builders Custom Flooring has been in business for an impressive 39 years, with 21 of those years spent right in downtown Lake Orion. “We’re a one-stop flooring store,” Dan said. “Commercial and residential flooring, tile, showers, waterproof flooring, hardwood, refinishing-we pretty much do it all.”

While their showroom is in Lake Orion, the Burgesses are long-time Oxford residents, having lived there for 25 years. That connection fuels their commitment to shopping local and supporting neighboring businesses. “If you want people to support your local business, you have to be willing to support them,” Debbie said. “You have to show up. Go to the farmers market. Spend your money locally. Be present.”

BCF’s philosophy goes far beyond selling materials. “One of the biggest things we take pride in is that we make houses homes,” Debbie explained. “Flooring is the foundation of the home. When you change it, you change the atmosphere of that space.” With quality products, expert installation, and crews made up of local neighbors, the company focuses on long-term value, not shortcuts. “I can honestly say every home we’ve worked in, we’ve increased the value of that home,” added Dan.

One thing that sets BCF apart is experience. Dan has been inside tens of thousands of homes over nearly four decades. “Every single week, I walk into something I’ve never seen before,” he said. “Older homes, historic homes-every house has issues. We don’t just sell products, we solve problems.”

Rather than overwhelming customers, BCF handpicks its offerings. “We’re kind of like a flooring boutique,” Debbie said. “We don’t carry everything-we carry what people actually need.” Many products are exclusive, high-quality, and sourced with durability and value in mind, including American-made options whenever possible.
