Bluebird Hospice Brings Compassion to Oxford and Beyond
Bluebird Hospice LLC, led by Executive Director Deanee Mauser, is a small, locally owned hospice serving patients throughout Oakland, Macomb, Lapeer, and Genesee Counties. Located in downtown Oxford, Bluebird Hospice provides care where patients live – whether that’s their own home, an assisted living facility, a skilled nursing center, or even a shelter. Deanee explains, “Wherever they call home is where we go to provide care for them.”
Hospice care is often misunderstood. Many people think it’s only for the last days or weeks of life, but hospice is about months of support for both patients and families facing life-limiting illnesses. “One of the most common things we hear,” Deanee says, “is that families wish they had come onto hospice sooner, so they could have accessed the full support available.”
Bluebird Hospice offers a comprehensive, compassionate team approach. Each patient has a registered nurse, a home health aide, a social worker, a chaplain, a physician, and trained volunteers. Nurses develop individualized care plans and visit patients regularly, sometimes daily if needed, with 24/7 on-call support. Home health aides provide practical assistance, from bathing to light housekeeping, while social workers support emotional well-being and help with resources like advanced directives or legal guidance. Chaplains offer spiritual support, though families can choose their own faith guidance if preferred. Volunteers provide respite care so caregivers can take needed breaks, knowing their loved one is safe and cared for.
Medicare covers hospice completely (no co-pays or deductibles) including all care services, medications, durable medical equipment, and supplies. “We even deliver medications to the patient’s home,” Deanee notes, “so families don’t have to worry about leaving their loved one alone.” The goal is simple: reduce burdens on families so they can focus on quality time with the patient.

We are not a big corporate office. We know our patients and families by name.” The team has over 75 years of combined hospice experience, with some members providing care locally for more than 30 years.
